Inside Justice Statement on CCRC Application for Review of Lucy Letby Conviction

Share:Inside Justice notes the announcement that the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) has received a 'preliminary application' in relation to Lucy Letby’s convictions.
The CCRC plays a vital role in investigating potential miscarriages of justice, and we recognise the importance of due process in all cases.
However, we remain deeply concerned about the longstanding backlog of cases at the CCRC, with many applicants—some of whom have been waiting for several years—still seeking answers.
The complexity and scale of the Letby case must not come at the cost of delaying justice for others who have already been waiting far too long.
We urge the CCRC to ensure that existing cases are not deprioritised in light of this latest application. Many individuals who have credible grounds for appeal are left in limbo due to resource constraints and extended reinvestigation timelines.
Justice delayed is justice denied.
We will continue to monitor the situation and advocate for a system in which all applicants—regardless of public interest in their case—receive a fair and timely review of their claims.
