New documentary casts doubt over murder conviction of Omar Benguit

A new BBC documentary is set to cast doubt over the murder conviction of Omar Benguit who was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Jong-Ok Shin in Bournemouth in 2005.

In a new programme, Unsolved: An Alibi for Omar? for BBC Three, journalists have discovered new evidence that could provide him with an alibi. Researchers have also find more prosecution witnesses who claim the police pressured them to tell lies about Omar in court.

The new evidence includes CCTV footage appearing to show Omar more than a mile away from where the witness claimed, less than half an hour after the murder.

The documentary Unsolved: An Alibi for Omar? is available on the iPlayer.
