Keeping up with the Joneses.
A US man has been freed after more than 23 years in jail for crimes including the killing of a UK tourist, BBC US & Canada reported this week.
"It's a great day," said Robert Jones as he left Orleans Parish Prison in Louisiana last Friday.
Jones was sentenced to life for rape, robbery and the manslaughter of Julie Stott in 1992, even though another man, Lester Jones, had already been convicted of the murder. There was also compelling evidence to link Lester Jones to all of the crimes of which Robert Jones was accused, withheld at the time by state prosecutors.
A Louisiana court ruled this June that Robert Jones did not get a fair trial, but he remained in prison. Last month, the original trial judge told BBC News he believed there had been a miscarriage of justice.
This week a judge said Robert Jones could finally leave prison on bail pending a retrial.
"I've been looking forward to it for a long time," said Robert Jones’ daughter Bree, born after he was imprisoned.
